Since its creation, the World Travel Journalism Organization (WTJO) has been a pioneer in creating spaces for meeting, reflection, and action among professionals who communicate tourism from an ethical, critical, and transformative perspective. Through its international congresses, the organization has built a strong network of journalists, academics, communicators, cultural managers, and destination representatives who advocate for a more conscious and inclusive tourism.
Today, with renewed enthusiasm, the WTJO officially announces the venue for its 14th International Congress of Travel Journalists and Tourism Professionals, which will take place on August 27, 2025, in the city of Pasto, Nariño department, Colombia. This edition will be titled "Biosociocultural Dialogues for Transformation," an invitation to rethink tourism through diversity, peace, sustainability, and respect for territories.
A history of meetings that leave a mark
Over the years, the WTJO congresses have been held in different regions around the world, providing a plural and intercultural view of tourism. Here are the previous editions:
2024 – Campos do Jordão, Brazil.
2023 – Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
2022 – San Sebastián, Brazil.
2019 – Lima, Peru and São Paulo, Brazil.
2018 – Iguazú, Argentina and Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
2017 – Medellín, Colombia.
2016 – Mar del Plata, Argentina, Nuevo León, Mexico, and Panama City, Panama.
2015 – La Serena, Chile.
2014 – Mendoza, Argentina.
Each congress has left its mark through vibrant debates, creative workshops, academic presentations, tributes to journalistic work, and the building of new alliances. These events have been spaces to highlight local voices, explore emerging destinations, and build bridges between cultures.
A new chapter in Pasto
The choice of Pasto as the venue for 2025 reflects the WTJO's commitment to decentralize travel communication and highlight the immense potential of regions that champion peace, living culture, and citizen participation. In collaboration with local and regional institutions, the congress will offer an intense day of reflections, tours, and experiences in a territory with deep indigenous, mestizo, Afro-descendant, and rural roots.
In addition, the tenth edition of the Open Passport Award will also take place, making Pasto the epicenter of international travel communication.
Open invitation
The WTJO invites travel journalists, students, cultural managers, influencers with a social commitment, and industry representatives to join this new global gathering. The congress will, as always, be a space for collective learning, professional inspiration, and transformative action.
