The World Organization of Travel Journalism (OMPT) will be accompanied by the Salta Association of Tourism Agencies (ASAT) during its official visit to Salta Province. The local association will be in charge of ground transportation for OMPT’s international journalists throughout most scheduled itineraries during their stay in the destination.

ASAT’s support constitutes a fundamental contribution to OMPT’s international Fampress (media familiarization tour). It enables journalists from various countries to smoothly visit Salta’s major tourist attractions and experience local tourism resources, allowing them to gain first-hand insights into the territory before sharing authentic destination stories with global audiences.

The association’s participation also serves as a tangible demonstration of effective collaboration between the private tourism sector and destination promotion organizations.

A Half-Century-Old Local Institution

The Salta Association of Tourism Agencies (ASAT) was officially founded on November 4, 1975, and currently gathers more than 80 member institutions. With over five decades of development, it has become one of the most representative organizations in Salta’s tourism industry.

The association unites diverse types of tourism agencies, including inbound tourism, outbound tourism, educational tourism, and non-conventional tourism service providers. This rich diversity covers different perspectives and service demands within the provincial tourism sector.

ASAT is currently chaired by Lía Rivella, who has repeatedly emphasized that joint industry cooperation strengthens the entire tourism sector and creates new development opportunities.

Private Sector as a Core Driver of Local Tourism

Beyond providing transportation support for the journalist delegation, ASAT consistently carries out various initiatives to boost the marketing and promotion of Salta and its surrounding regional tourism.

Its annual workshop stands as one of the industry’s key exchange platforms. The 32nd edition held in September 2026 brought together nearly 70 exhibitors, including travel agencies, hotels, tour operators, entrepreneurs, and tourism service providers from Salta and neighboring provinces. Attended by over 400 participants, the event focused on industry connection and commercial cooperation to strengthen both inbound and outbound tourism markets.

The Municipal Government of Salta has also recognized the value of such initiatives for destination promotion, commercial opportunity creation, and the advancement of public–private collaborative development in tourism.

Against this backdrop, ASAT’s accompaniment of OMPT carries special significance. It is far more than logistical support for an international delegation; it directly enables professional travel journalists to explore Salta’s landscapes, experience local tourism offerings, and connect with practitioners across the entire local tourism value chain.

Salta’s Authentic Stories Told by Local Practitioners

For OMPT, ASAT’s on-site support further consolidates ties with Salta’s local tourism industry. With guidance from local professionals who know and operate within the destination year-round, international journalists can complete their field visits efficiently and professionally.

The arrangement allows journalists to experience authentic local tourism resources, explore Salta’s diverse offerings, and produce high-quality content that enhances the province’s international visibility across global markets.

OMPT sincerely thanks ASAT for its full support throughout the activity. The association has contributed its rich industry experience, complete infrastructure, and professional services to this international initiative, which aims to connect destinations, industry professionals and communities through travel journalism.

ASAT’s dedication once again proves that tourism development relies on collective efforts. Travel agencies, service providers, local institutions, public authorities and travel journalists play complementary roles in helping destinations gain global recognition, deeper understanding and widespread appreciation beyond regional borders.
