Call for Speakers Opens for the 19th International Congress of Tourism Journalists and Professionals in Uruguay

The World Organization of Travel Journalism (Organización Mundial de Periodismo Turístico, OMPT), together with JR Eventos, has launched the call for speakers for the 19th International Congress of Travel Journalists and Professionals. The event will take place on March 16, 2027, in Punta del Este, Uruguay, under the theme “Tourism and Communication”.

The congress aims to bring together journalists, tourism practitioners, communicators, academics, researchers and specialists from both fields to discuss the challenges and opportunities emerging at the intersection of tourism and communication.

A New Way to Gather

For this edition, the organizing committee is designing a programme to move beyond the traditional congress format of back-to-back presentations. It seeks to create a more dynamic, interactive and immersive experience, where keynote speeches form part of an overall agenda encouraging knowledge exchange, Q&A, audience engagement and dialogue among all attendees.

Presentations will be complemented by interactive sessions to boost engagement between speakers and participants. The Congress will be more than a place for listening; it will serve as a platform for sharing, questioning, debating and co-creating knowledge collectively.

Applicants must submit the title and a short abstract of their proposed talk by November 30, 2026. Furthermore, selected speakers are required to complete a pre-event training session focused on talk preparation and delivery. The training is designed to provide practical tools to help speakers deliver clear, appealing and dynamic presentations tailored to the Congress format.

Slides and other presentation materials shall be submitted by January 30, 2027.

Tourism and Communication

The theme “Tourism and Communication” creates a forum to explore the enduring connection between these two closely linked fields: how destinations are communicated, how tourism experiences are shaped and shared, and the role of communication and tourism professionals within this process.

With this call for proposals, OMPT and JR Eventos are shaping this new international gathering, putting participants at its heart alongside speakers.

The call is now open. Prospective speakers have until November 30, 2026 to submit their proposals for the programme.
