Catamarca Takes Center Stage in OMPT’s Longest-Ever Fampress of Travel Journalism

Catamarca has emerged as one of the core destinations of the longest Fampress (media familiarization tour) in the history of travel journalism, hosted by the World Travel Journalism Organization (OMPT). The province hosted six consecutive days of activities from September 13 to 18.

Catamarca’s involvement in this Fampress started even earlier. On September 3, the travel journalists joining the tour were welcomed at the House of Catamarca Province in Buenos Aires. It marked the first engagement with the province before the on-site activities kicked off in Catamarca.

Between September 13 and 18, Catamarca occupied the longest segment of the Fampress itinerary, with six full days dedicated to exploring, experiencing and promoting its tourism offerings.

Another highlight of this leg is the participation of 23 international journalists, making it the stop with the largest group of international journalists across the whole tour.

Yet Catamarca’s uniqueness lies not only in the duration of the programme and the international delegation. It also stood out for its collaborative approach: tourism students joined the activities alongside OMPT’s travel journalists.

This gathering of journalists and students created a space for exchange and learning. It brought tourism trainees face-to-face with real-world travel journalism practice and direct on-the-ground experience of local destinations.

Therefore, Catamarca is not merely a stop on the longest Fampress in travel journalism history. It distinguishes itself through its lengthy schedule, the scale of its international journalist cohort, and a collaborative programme that integrates tourism students.

The province has become a meeting point linking local territory, vocational training and international travel journalism.
