Charitrip promotes a tourism model that directly funds social organizations

A new digital initiative aims to pave the way for a different model of tourism with a direct impact on local communities. This is Charitrip, a platform currently under development that seeks to connect travelers interested in responsible experiences with social organizations that offer accommodation spaces within their own facilities. At this initial stage, the project has launched a consultation process to gather input from associations and community entities, with the goal of adapting its design to the sector’s real needs.

The initiative proposes a simple alternative: organizations with available rooms, shared housing, or other infrastructure could offer them to visitors looking for lodging options aligned with social and environmental values. The income generated from stays would be transferred directly to the host entities, creating an additional source of funding without the need to implement mandatory volunteer programs or complex operational structures. Optionally, each organization could complement the stay with cultural activities, tours, or experiences linked to its mission.

According to the platform, global tourism moves billions of people each year, many of whom express interest in traveling more consciously. However, a large share of tourism spending continues to be concentrated among major operators and international chains. The proposal specifically seeks to redirect a portion of that economic flow toward local social and environmental projects.

The project is currently in a participatory validation phase. The team behind the initiative aims to assess whether this model is viable, relevant, and respectful for the organizations that may join the network. The next steps include expanding outreach, fostering debate around innovative funding mechanisms for the social sector, and continuing to incorporate the perspectives of entities interested in contributing to its development.
