From July 2 to 5, the city of Yantai hosted the 2nd Global Summit on Responsible Wine Tourism, organized by the Organización Mundial de Enoturismo (OMET). The event brought together over 300 key figures from the global wine industry, representing all five continents, in a gathering that combined thematic forums, strategic dialogues, and technical visits to iconic locations.
Uruguay was part of the Latin American delegation through the participation of Enjoy Punta del Este, represented by its Director of Institutional Relations and Sales, Javier Azcurra. Also attending were Alejandra Cabrera, from MINTUR, and Paula Vila, representing INAVI.
Azcurra presented the Salon del Vino of Enjoy Punta del Este, an event with over two decades of history, featuring more than 150 wineries and nearly 6,000 attendees in both its national and international editions. He also shared the impact of the Punta Wine Trip program, which promotes tourism activity beyond the high season.
“Wine tourism is destined to become one of the leading categories in international tourism, and Punta del Este one of the new gems to be discovered,” he affirmed.
The summit, held in Yantai — regarded as the birthplace of China’s modern wine industry — featured 12 thematic forums and 8 high-level international dialogues, covering topics such as innovation, sustainability, smart communication, and successful case studies. A total of 17 international reference cases were presented, including that of Enjoy Punta del Este.
At the close of the summit, the Yantai Declaration on Global Wine Tourism was signed, promoting the responsible development of the sector worldwide. It was also announced that the next edition of the summit will take place in Alentejo, Portugal, in 2026.
Through this participation, Uruguay strengthens its presence on the global wine tourism stage, positioning Punta del Este as an emerging and strategic wine tourism destination.
