Historic Record: 402 submissions for the Open Passport Award in its 10th edition to be held in Nariño

The World Travel Journalism Organization (WTJO) celebrates a new milestone in the history of the Open Passport Award, announcing that its latest edition has received a total of 402 submitted works, setting an all-time record since the award's creation.


This remarkable increase in participation reaffirms the growing international relevance of the award, consolidating it as one of the most prestigious recognitions in travel journalism that upholds the values of ethics, innovation, and positive contributions to the development of destinations.


Submissions have come from more than 30 countries, covering the wide range of categories that make up the award:


  • Social Relevance

  • Journalistic Ethics

  • Originality

  • Inspiration

  • Career Achievement

  • etc.


The growing participation of young journalists and new digital media also stands out, reflecting a dynamic sector with a fresh and inclusive view of tourism and communication.


The award ceremony will take place on August 26 in Nariño, Colombia, bringing together professionals from around the world in a celebration that highlights the power of travel journalism as a transformative force for both local and global realities.


From WTJO, its president Miguel Ledhesma expressed his gratitude to all individuals and institutions that have once again placed their trust in the Open Passport Award:

“This record is not just a number—it is proof that hundreds of journalists and communicators are committed to telling stories that inspire, transform, and build bridges between cultures.”

With these record-breaking 402 entries, the 2025 Open Passport Award takes another step forward in its mission to showcase and recognize the best practices in travel journalism worldwide.
