Jujuy to Host the 18th International Congress of Tourism Journalists and Professionals

San Salvador de Jujuy in Argentina will host the 18th International Congress of Tourism Journalists and Professionals, organised by the World Organization of Tourism Journalism (Organización Mundial de Periodismo Turístico, OMPT), next Monday, 7 September. Under the motto “When communicating a destination generates real travel”, the event offers a full‑day academic and professional exchange bringing together journalists, communicators, tourism practitioners and sector representatives from many countries.

The congress runs from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Salón Éxodo at the Cabildo de Jujuy. Its international agenda centres on the links between communication, territory, tourist experiences and destination promotion.

The core question guiding the programme is: how can a story, an image, journalistic reporting or a communication strategy go beyond screens and effectively motivate people to travel.

Among keynote speakers, Miguel Ledhesma joining from Mexico will deliver the congress‑namesake presentation: “When communicating a destination generates real travel”. His talk will explore tourism communication and destinations’ ability to spark interest, travel desire and tangible visitor experiences.

From the Dominican Republic, Cristina Rosario and Salvador Batista will present “Argentina and the Dominican Republic: tourism in search of reciprocity”, analysing opportunities for bilateral tourism exchange and cooperation.

Local perspective will be provided by Jujuy‑based audiovisual artist Carolina Inés Franco with “Ceremonies, a way of seeing the territory”, focusing on observing, interpreting and communicating spaces and cultural expressions.

Darío Zambrano, Jujuy tour guide and tourism communicator, will give the lecture “Inspiring nature, connecting culture, uniting paths”, creating dialogue around Jujuy’s natural attractions, culture and place‑based visitor experiences.

Holding the congress in San Salvador de Jujuy also enables dialogue between international professionals and this destination’s distinctive cultural heritage, landscapes and rich local cultural expressions.
