This Wednesday, the city of La Plata played host to the 9th International Forum of Tourism Leaders. The event brought together specialists, practitioners and key figures from tourism and communication sectors across Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Brazil, Germany and Venezuela to examine the challenges for tourism communication amid advances in artificial intelligence, algorithms and emerging digital platforms.

The event drew officials and representatives from FEHGRA (Argentine Hotel and Gastronomic Business Federation), alongside officials from the Municipality of La Plata and the La‑Plata Tourism Board, as well as professionals and prominent figures from tourism and communication industries.

The meeting took place amid far‑reaching shifts in how people seek information, discover destinations and make travel‑related decisions.

Against this backdrop, the forum created an international space for reflection and exchange on the present and future of tourism communication, bringing together diverse viewpoints from Latin America and Europe.

The participation of professionals from multiple countries made it possible to examine technological shifts from a wide range of realities and practical experiences.

Destinations, businesses, institutions, media outlets and tourism professionals are now confronted with a constantly‑evolving digital ecosystem. In this environment, visibility and positioning rely increasingly on automated systems and platforms that decide which content reaches audiences.

The presence of institutional and business representatives from Argentina’s tourism sector, together with international specialists and practitioners, further fostered exchanges among all stakeholders and opened up dialogue on the challenges destinations and tourism organisations will face in the years ahead.

The 9th International Forum of Tourism Leaders forms part of an international agenda of meetings promoted by the World Organization of Tourism Journalism (OMPT). It aims to foster the exchange of knowledge and experience among journalists, communicators, practitioners, institutions and key tourism figures from various countries.

Holding the forum in La Plata also fits into an international schedule. Further activities and events related to tourism journalism and communication will follow throughout September.
