The city of Monterrey, Mexico, will host the 16th International Congress of Travel Journalism on April 27, 2026, an event that will bring together journalists, academics, and tourism professionals from various countries. The congress will take place at the Raúl Rangel Frías University Library of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL), the host institution.
Led by the World Travel Journalism Organization (WTJO) and the International Agency of Specialized Journalists Seis Grados, the congress will unfold in a key context: the countdown to the FIFA World Cup 2026, for which Monterrey will be one of the host cities. For this reason, this year’s edition will focus on the theme “The University: Soccer and Tourism,” with the aim of analyzing the role of academic institutions in generating knowledge, professional training, and developing projects that connect sports with tourism development.
The event will gather representatives from Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, the United States, Ecuador, Honduras, Panama, Peru, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico, among others, who will exchange perspectives on new trends in travel journalism, the impact of sports on destination promotion, and communication strategies for major international events.
In addition to the academic program, participating journalists will carry out a Fam Press across different municipalities of Nuevo León, in order to experience and document the state’s tourism offerings. Scheduled activities include scientific tourism experiences promoted by UANL, such as visits to the astronomical observatory in Iturbide and to red wine and mezcal production projects in Linares, among other initiatives.
The 16th International Congress of Travel Journalism 2026 aims to strengthen its role as a space for professional dialogue and as an international showcase to highlight the tourism potential of Nuevo León in a decisive year for the region.
