OMPT Explored Tango Porteño in Buenos Aires

The World Organization of Travel Journalism (OMPT) was invited to visit the facilities of Tango Porteño, a renowned tango venue located in the heart of Buenos Aires city centre.

The visit took place on September 3 as part of OMPT’s official agenda during its stay in the Argentine capital, within the framework of the longest Fampress (media familiarization tour) in the history of travel journalism.

Situated at Cerrito 570, just a few meters from the iconic Buenos Aires Obelisk, Tango Porteño is a cultural space dedicated to recreating the golden age of tango. The venue originally operated as Cine Metro, a classic cinema owned by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, before being repurposed into the current tango centre.

During the on-site tour, OMPT representatives explored the venue’s facilities and experienced its core cultural proposal, which centres entirely on tango identity and constitutes one of Buenos Aires’ most emblematic cultural and tourist attractions.

The activity enriched the Fampress agenda by introducing international journalists to one of the city’s most globally recognised cultural expressions, highlighting the value of exploring spaces that define authentic porteño identity.

This visit joins a series of field experiences and cultural encounters undertaken by OMPT throughout its Argentina tour, allowing international travel journalists to engage deeply with the destination’s cultural landmarks, tourist resources, and heritage assets.
