OMPT to Host University Interns from China to Boost International Exchange

The World Organization of Tourism Journalism (Organización Mundial de Periodismo Turístico, OMPT) will welcome university students from China over the coming months under an international internship programme. The programme focuses on professional training and exchange within tourism, journalism and communication fields.

This initiative enables young talents from prestigious Chinese universities to take part in professional training opportunities with OMPT. The interns, aged roughly 18 to 25, include undergraduate and postgraduate students with diverse academic backgrounds and solid English proficiency.

At the initial stage, internships will be mainly remote. This arrangement allows participants to balance this international experience with their university studies. In-person activities may be arranged in the future, subject to the conditions and feasibility of each programme.

Internship terms range from three to twelve months, determined by each student’s profile and the requirements of planned activities. During the internship, participants will receive training, support and guidance to build professional skills and gain experience in an international environment.

Work areas cover tourism, journalism, communication, content production and digital communication. Special emphasis will be placed on creating content in both Mandarin Chinese and English, facilitating communication with global audiences and expanding exchange opportunities between China and Latin America.

As part of the selection process, pre-screened candidates will attend interviews in the months ahead. These interviews serve to assess candidates’ academic backgrounds, interests, capabilities and areas of specialisation before confirming their placement in different internship tracks.

For OMPT, welcoming Chinese students offers a chance to further expand its global reach and build new platforms for academic and professional exchange. For the young participants, the internship brings the opportunity to gain experience within a tourism journalism organisation and gain first-hand exposure to alternative perspectives on tourism communication.

The programme aligns with the growing trend of internationalisation in higher education. Training experiences hosted by overseas organisations help students supplement their academic knowledge and build cross-cultural competencies.

Through this initiative, OMPT continues to broaden its international partnerships and foster spaces for training, cultural exchange and professional cooperation between students and specialists across different countries.
