The World Organization of Tourism Journalism (Organización Mundial de Periodismo Turístico, OMPT) officially unveiled its flag at the 10th International Forum of Tourism Leaders, held on September 3 in Buenos Aires, as one of the closing‑day activities.

The flag‑unveiling ceremony represented one of the most symbolic moments of the gathering. Professionals engaged in tourism and communications gathered around the theme “Innovate to Communicate: The New Paradigm of Tourism”.

The whole piece was hand‑made in full by craftswoman Inés Ledesma. The embroidery seeks to manifest the organization’s global scope as well as the rich diversity of tourism‑journalism practitioners.

Its outer rim showcases national flags of OMPT member states, forming a border which symbolizes the organization’s international reach.

Inner motifs draw inspiration from photographs submitted by tourism journalists featuring their home destinations. In this manner, members themselves are integrated into the flag’s design.

At the very centre, the acronym OMPT is printed in black. It stands for the World Organization of Tourism Journalism and serves as the visual centrepiece.

Far more than an institutional badge, this new flag is a collective creation. Nations, journalists, images and one shared organization converge within this hand‑crafted artwork.

Hand‑stitched embroidery brings distinctive meaning to this emblem. Against the backdrop of digital transformation and emerging technologies reshaping tourism communication, the flag honours handicraft craftsmanship and celebrates human‑made creations and creativity.

Hosted jointly by OMPT and Asempio (Association of SME Entrepreneurs for Equal Opportunities), the 10th International Forum of Tourism Leaders took place in Buenos Aires. The conference covered innovation, emotional perception, sensory experience, artificial intelligence and international destination branding.

Following the official launch, the flag becomes a fresh emblem of the World Organization of Tourism Journalism and an embroidered testament to its worldwide community.
