Tourism Students from Universidad Fasta Spend a Day with OMPT Travel Journalists

Tourism students from the Technical Degree Programme in Tourism at Universidad Fasta (FASTA University) in Catamarca joined travel journalists of the World Travel Journalism Organization (OMPT)on September 14 for a session focused on sharing experiences and insights related to tourism communication.

A group of 16 students, accompanied by their female professors, got the chance to meet OMPT journalists. They learned about the journalists’ work firsthand, exchanged experiences, and gained a deeper understanding of the role of communication in tourism development and promotion.

The event created a platform connecting students undergoing professional training in tourism and practitioners specializing in travel journalism. Participants shared knowledge and perspectives on this field, which is in growing need of professionals who can tell the stories of destinations, their attractions and local realities.

Miguel Ledhesma, President of OMPT, emphasized the value of such encounters: “It is very important for us to engage with tourism students, as they will take on an increasingly vital role in tourism communication. Tourism does not only need professionals familiar with destinations and services; it also needs people who can convey what is happening in local communities.”

OMPT regards it essential to foster these exchange opportunities with students and future tourism professionals. Such activities bring them closer to travel journalism and open doors for them to explore alternative ways to communicate and understand the tourism industry.
