Uruguay will raffle an all-inclusive spot for a european media outlet to participate in the 19th International Travel Journalism Congress

Uruguay announced that it will raffle an all-expenses-paid spot for a journalist from a European media outlet to attend the 19th edition of the International Travel Journalism Congress in March 2027. The initiative aims to strengthen ties between Europe and South America, as well as promote specialized coverage of the host country’s destinations and tourism experiences.

The benefit will include round-trip airfare from Europe, accommodation for the entire stay, meals, and participation in official tours related to the congress and the technical visit agenda.

The experience will take place over an estimated period of seven to ten days, allowing the selected professional to gain in-depth knowledge of different destinations and tourism offerings.

A call for journalists specialized in tourism

The call is aimed at European journalists with proven experience in the field of tourism. The goal is to select a professional with real experience in destination coverage, willing to produce content afterward that promotes the attractions visited and the dynamics of the congress.

Interested applicants must send the required information in Spanish to foropertur@gmail.com:

•Demonstrate experience in travel journalism through links to their own publications.

•Express willingness to share their experiences and knowledge, as well as to publish content afterward about each destination visited.

They must also provide the following information:

  • Full name

  • Passport number

  • Name of the media outlet where they work

  • Length of time working at the outlet

  • Indicate whether the outlet is their own or belongs to a company

  • Links to journalism publications related to tourism

  • Personal Instagram account and the media outlet’s Instagram account

  • Languages spoken

  • Confirm availability to attend for the full period of seven to ten days

  • Briefly explain their motivations for participating

The organizers also noted that, as part of the selection process, applicants may be asked to participate briefly in a prior virtual broadcast in order to better understand the candidate and their professional approach.

International projection of the Congress

The International Travel Journalism Congress has established itself as a space for exchange, analysis, and professional development for communicators in the sector. The 2027 edition will mark its 19th edition, with an agenda focused on global trends, sustainability, narrative innovation, and new models of tourism communication.

With this initiative, Uruguay aims to boost the visibility of both the event and its destinations in the European market, generating specialized content that expands the country’s international reach as a host of professional gatherings and high-value cultural tourism experiences.

The winner will be announced during the last week of November at the 12th edition of the Open Passport Award.
