The municipality of Yumbo, traditionally recognized as the industrial capital of Valle del Cauca, is consolidating a new tourism narrative that integrates nature, culture, and community development. At the first meeting that brought together local authorities, led by the Secretary of Economic Development of the Yumbo City Hall, representatives from the tourism sector, institutions such as SENA and ANATO, content creators, and entrepreneurs, a broad vision of the territory’s tourism potential was presented.
Yumbo has a strategic location: it is just minutes from Cali and the Alfonso Bonilla Aragón International Airport, which facilitates access for both regional and national visitors. During the event, participants visited districts such as Dapa, known for its cool climate, occasional fog, mountainous landscapes, and viewpoints overlooking Cali; as well as Mulaló and other rural areas that stand out for their history, traditions, and natural wealth.
The meeting highlighted the diversity of experiences Yumbo offers, ranging from nature tourism and community-based tourism to traditional gastronomy, with goat meat standing out as an emblematic dish. The presence of entertainment areas such as Menga was also emphasized; although commonly associated with Cali, it belongs to Yumbo’s territory and adds dynamism to its tourism offering.
In addition to its more than 115,000 inhabitants, Yumbo is distinguished by its climate variety: in just a few minutes, one can move from the heat of the urban area to the coolness of the rural mountains. This combination of industry, nature, accessibility, and culture positions the municipality as an emerging destination with high potential for sustainable tourism development.
“The main goal of the meeting was to showcase this richness, coordinate the actors in the sector, and strengthen the path toward a comprehensive tourism offer that complements its industrial leadership with authentic, community-based experiences connected to the natural environment,” highlighted Paulo César Polo, Secretary of Economic Development of Yumbo.
