With an emotional official ceremony held on Friday evening at the Hacienda Provenza Hotel, the municipality of Candelaria dressed up to commemorate World Travel Journalist Day, a date established by the World Travel Journalism Organization (WTJO) and celebrated every September 5th in various countries.
The ceremony was presided over by Dr. Jesica Vallejos, Mayor of Candelaria, who highlighted the importance of recognizing the work of journalists who promote heritage, culture, and travel experiences that strengthen tourism in their regions.
During the evening, the mayor presented special recognitions to national and international travel journalists, honoring their commitment to promoting destinations, conducting journalistic research, and telling stories that bring travelers closer to local communities.
“Travel journalism is a bridge that connects territories and people. Candelaria is proud to be part of this commemoration and to welcome those who, with their pen and voice, contribute to the development of sustainable tourism,” expressed Mayor Vallejos.
The event, organized in partnership with the WTJO, was attended by communicators, local authorities, tourism sector representatives, and community leaders. The choice of Hacienda Provenza,an icon of traditional architecture and rural tourism in the region, reinforced the message of the celebration: valuing cultural identity and authentic experiences.
With this ceremony, Candelaria joined the network of cities that every year celebrate World Travel Journalist Day, a date that aims to highlight the work of specialized tourism communicators and recognize their role as strategic allies in building more competitive and sustainable destinations.
