Candelaria hosted the swearing-in of the new Board of Directors of the WTJO in Colombia

As part of the celebration of World Travel Journalist Day, the World Travel Journalism Organization (WTJO) held an official event on Friday evening at the Hacienda Provenza Hotel, where the swearing-in ceremony of the new WTJO Board of Directors in Colombia took place.


The solemn moment was led by Miguel Ledhesma, founding president of the WTJO, who administered the oath to the members of the newly appointed board, emphasizing the significance of this step in strengthening travel journalism in the region.


“We begin this swearing-in and inauguration ceremony of the new Board of Directors of the World Travel Journalism Organization in Colombia. This moment represents a commitment to ethics, responsibility, and the promotion of responsible and conscious tourism, in line with WTJO’s values around the world,” stated Ledhesma.


During the ceremony, the guiding principles of the WTJO,set to steer the work of travel journalists in Colombia,were reaffirmed:


  • Truth and journalistic ethics.

  • Respect for host communities.

  • Promotion of tourism as a symbol of peace, unity, and development.

  • Defense of cultural, social, and environmental sustainability.

  • Strengthening travel journalism as a profession with global impact.

  • The event, which was attended by national and international journalists, local authorities, and tourism sector representatives, was considered a historic occasion for Candelaria, a city increasingly recognized as a key meeting point on Colombia’s tourism and communications agenda.

  • With this ceremony, the WTJO renewed its commitment to Colombia and its broader presence in Latin America, reaffirming the role of travel journalism as a promoter of sustainable development and a bridge between cultures.
