The city of Monterrey, Mexico, will host the 16th International Congress of Travel Journalism on April 27, 2026, a gathering that will bring together journalists, academics, and professionals from the tourism sector from various countries. In this context, the organization officially announced the opening of registrations for speakers, aimed at specialists interested in being part of the event’s academic program.
The congress will take place at the Biblioteca Universitaria Raúl Rangel Frías de la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL), the host institution for this edition. The overall event will run from April 23 to May 4, a period that will include tourist tours, academic experiences, and territorial immersion activities, while the main congress will be held on April 27.
The meeting will be held in a strategic context: in the lead-up to the FIFA World Cup 2026, for which Monterrey will be one of the host cities. For this reason, the central theme of this edition will be “The university: football and tourism,” with the aim of analyzing the role of academic institutions in knowledge generation, professional training, and the promotion of projects that link sport and tourism development.
Those interested in applying as speakers must send the title of their proposal and an abstract to the email address miguelledhesma@gmail.com, and also commit to viewing a class as part of the registration process and academic alignment of the congress.
As a complement to the academic program, participating journalists will take part in a Press Fam Trip across different municipalities of Nuevo León, in order to experience and document the state’s tourism offerings. Planned activities include scientific tourism experiences promoted by UANL, such as visits to the Iturbide astronomical observatory and to red wine and mezcal production projects in Linares, among other initiatives.
The 16th International Congress of Travel Journalism 2026 aims to consolidate itself as a space for professional dialogue, academic training, and international projection, positioning Nuevo León as a key destination in a decisive year for the region.
