As part of the celebration of World Tourism Day,this year held under the theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation”,the municipality of Sandoná served as a regional host for the Colombia Limpia National Days, an initiative led by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism.
On September 26, the event titled Por mi Colombia dejo una huella positiva was held, focusing on a waste collection activity at the Puente del Río Ingenio, a local tourist attraction. The initiative brought together the Vice Ministry of Tourism, the Municipal Government, the public services company Emsan E.S.P., students from the tourism program of Santo Tomás de Aquino Educational Institution, local tourism service providers, and members of the community. Participants organized into groups to clean the site and its surroundings.
As a result, 186.95 kilograms of solid waste were collected, with plastics, glass, Styrofoam, and disposable items being the most common materials. None of the waste was classified as recyclable.
The event became a space for reflection on how everyday actions impact the conservation of natural resources and the quality of tourist destinations. It also emphasized the importance of shared responsibility between institutions and the public in protecting local environments.
Puente del Río Ingenio was transformed into a setting for environmental learning and awareness, setting a positive precedent that can be replicated at other attractions within the municipality. This experience reinforces Sandoná’s commitment to a model of tourism that drives development while being rooted in environmental preservation.
“Every piece of waste we leave in nature doesn’t just disappear,it becomes a footprint that affects everyone’s lives. Real change begins with simple actions: how we consume, how we dispose of what we no longer use, and how we take responsibility for the spaces we share,” the organizers concluded.
