The 2026 Open Passport Award adds three new categories

The Open Passport Award, organized annually by the World Travel Journalism Organization (WTJO), will take place in Panama from January 29 to February 5, 2026, and announces the addition of three new categories that broaden its perspective on responsible travel communication.
New Categories
13. Photography with purpose:evaluates the ethical intention and message behind a tourism-related image.It recognizes photographs that not only showcase beauty but also convey values, human stories, or environmental and cultural awareness.
14. Video with social impact:assesses the creator’s ability to inspire reflection or positive action through social media videos. It rewards content that transforms the viewer’s perception of tourism by promoting empathy, inclusion, or sustainability.
15. Original content on social media:evaluates the authenticity, ethical consistency, and creativity of those who communicate about tourism through digital platforms. It highlights creators who share tourism content with truthfulness, sensitivity, and respect for destinations and communities.

Background
The nominees will be announced on December 7, 2025, in Mexico, during an official event.
As every year, nominees attending the ceremony in Panama will receive accommodation, meals, and guided tours, in addition to five extra points in the jury’s evaluation
