Registration Opens for the Tenth Edition of the International Open Passport Award to Be Held in Nariño

The World Organization of Travel Journalism (WTJO) has announced the opening of registration for the tenth edition of the International Open Passport Award, which will be held on August 26 in Nariño, Colombia. This prestigious award recognizes the work of journalists and communicators who promote tourism with ethics, responsibility and innovation.

Interested candidates can now register by submitting their work in different categories that highlight excellence in the global promotion of tourism. The award, which has become a benchmark in the sector, aims to recognize those professionals who inspire with their stories and contribute to building sustainable and culturally enriching tourism.

This year, the event will have a binational character, as in addition to the ceremony in Nariño, it will include special tours in Ecuador, thus strengthening integration and cooperation between both countries in the fields of journalism and tourism. This will be the first time the award transcends borders with experiences in two nations, allowing attendees to explore the cultural and natural richness of the Andean region.

This edition will also feature two additional novelties: one of the journalists present will be inducted into the Hall of Fame of Travel Journalism and one of the destinations that are part of the Global Network of Emerging Destinations will be recognized for the first time with the Tourism Positioning Award.

The ceremony on August 26 will bring together prominent journalists, media outlets, and experts in the field, making Nariño the epicenter of international tourism journalism. Participation is completely free, and applications will be accepted until May 30, 2025, via email at premiopasaporteabierto@gmail.com.

Nariño, located in the southwest of Colombia, is a destination known for its diverse landscapes, cultural wealth, and historical significance. It borders Ecuador and the Pacific Ocean, with its capital Pasto being renowned, as well as tourist attractions like Laguna de la Cocha and the Las Lajas Sanctuary.

The nominees will be announced on June 6, World Digital Solidarity Day, through www.periodismoturistico.org. As in each edition, the nominees attending the award ceremony will have accommodation, meals, and excursions included. It is also important to note that nominees who attend receive five extra points added to the jury's score.
