WTJO strengthens global travel journalism with publications, training, and thousands of articles every year

The World Travel Journalism Organization (WTJO) continues to establish itself year after year as an international reference in the professionalization and visibility of travel journalism. Its impact is reflected not only in its growing network of members and partners in more than 30 countries, but also in its strong intellectual and educational output, which enriches the sector with quality content, critical thinking, and practical tools.

Three books a year to rethink tourism in depth

On average, WTJO publishes three books annually, either through its own publishing house or in collaboration with partner institutions. These publications explore topics such as journalistic ethics applied to tourism, communication strategies for emerging destinations, sustainable tourism approaches, and innovation in digital content. Many of these titles have been translated into several languages, broadening their reach and strengthening a global network of ideas.

These books not only document research and best practices, but also give voice to journalists, educators, destination managers, and travelers committed to a more humane, conscious, and responsible form of tourism.

Continuous and diverse training: over 100 hours per year

Training is another key pillar of WTJO. Throughout the year, the organization offers over 100 hours of training for its members and the general public. These learning opportunities include courses, workshops, conferences, and seminars—both virtual and in-person—held in different countries.

Topics range from specific journalistic techniques (such as travel narratives or cultural tourism coverage) to contemporary tools like artificial intelligence in journalism, social media management, destination photography, and podcast production.

In addition, many of these training sessions are offered for free or at significantly reduced costs, in line with WTJO’s mission to democratize access to knowledge and strengthen local capacities in countries with less-developed tourism sectors.

Over 3,000 journalistic articles per year

One of the most compelling indicators of WTJO's impact is its journalistic output. Between original articles and member contributions, the organization publishes more than 3,000 journalistic pieces each year that explore destinations, analyze trends, spotlight initiatives, promote inclusion, and challenge outdated tourism models.

These articles are published not only in magazines and partner media outlets, but also on websites, blogs, social media, and newsletters—reaching diverse audiences in multiple languages. They stand out for their critical perspective, ethical approach, and commitment to a form of travel journalism that informs, inspires, and drives change.

More than an organization: a creative and transformative community

These numbers reflect an organization in constant motion, but what truly matters is what lies behind them: an international community of travel journalists who create, investigate, teach, and share from a place of passion for purposeful storytelling.

Beyond books, courses, and articles, WTJO promotes awards, events, collaborative research, certifications, and partnerships with universities, governments, and tourism businesses committed to a more conscious communication model.

In a world where the narrative around tourism is often shaped by marketing or superficiality, WTJO reminds us that travel journalism is also an act of social responsibility, and that reporting on tourism ultimately means talking about the ways we inhabit the world.
